New hotel approved in east London

TOWER Hamlets council has given the go-ahead for a new boutique hotel in the borough.

Black Lion House at 45 Whitechapel Road is currently a partially occupied office building but local planners have approved plans to refurbish and extend the property to create a 217-room hotel.

The developers behind the scheme say that the new venture will be an “extended stay design-led boutique hotel” called Eastgate by Urban Villa.

The concept “allows guests to use a full array of hotel services or alternatively remain relatively independent and private,” says the developer in their planning documents.

Southern Grove, one of the partners involved in the scheme say on their website that “the urban feel of the exterior is complimented by the high quality design of the interiors to break the mould in hotel delivery in the capital.  Manhattan meets Aldgate.”
