New boutique hotel planned for historic site in Bath

A NEW boutique hotel promising a “a touch of modern glamour” plans to open in Bath city centre this summer.

Hoteliers Ian and Christa Taylor have just completed the acquisition of the former Carfax Hotel in the city’s historic Great Pulteney Street.

The hotel, which was owned and run by the Salvation Army until it closed in 2013, was put up for sale earlier this year and marketed with a guide price of £4.5million.

The experienced duo, who run two other hotels in Bath, now plan to turn the property into a 40 bedroom boutique hotel with a cocktail bar, for which planning permission was given by the local council in January 2015.

The hotel is just a stone’s throw from the iconic Pulteney Bridge across the River Avon and is comprised of three Grade I-listed Georgian townhouses.

Ian Taylor commented, “Our new property has one of the best addresses in Bath and incredible potential. We will retain the integrity of the building, in an up-to-date interpretation with a nod to the history of Bath. We can’t wait to reveal more in the coming months.”

The couple’s two other hotels in Bath are the Abbey Hotel and the Villa Magdala.
