The Scarlet scoops boutique prize in Coast awards

An eco hotel on the Cornish coast has been named Best Boutique Hotel by the Sea.

The Scarlet in Mawgan Porth won the accolade in the recent annual awards from Coast Magazine.

The cliff-top hotel, which overlooks the stunning Mawgan Porth beach, opened in 2009 and has sustainability at the heart of its design.

Rooms at the “grown ups only” hotel, which has 37 rooms and suites, start at £180 per night.

Could former Burberry offices become boutique hotel?

Administrators handling the sale of a property on London’s Haymarket have suggested it could have a new future as a boutique hotel.

The building was originally developed as a base for Burberry at the start of the 20th century but the fashion brand left its former home in 2007.

The property was part of a investment portfolio belonging to Apprentice star, Paul Kemsley, which went into administration.

PriceWaterhouseCoopers were appointed administrators and have just completed the £20million sale. The Telegraph quotes Peter Spratt, partner and joint administrator at PricewaterhouseCoopers, as saying the building could be redeveloped into a “luxury boutique hotel”, ” high end retail” or “residential accommodation”.

Another boutique hotel planned in Greenwich

A planning application which includes a new 30 bedroom boutique hotel has been submitted to Greenwich Council.

The new hotel would form part of a large mixed use development from the Cathedral Group which would also include hundreds of residential apartments and student accommodation units, a 100 bed three star hotel, a gym, shops and office space.

The large development would be built on a disused industrial area behind Greenwich High Road.

The new application for a boutique hotel follows soon behind the news that Greenwich Market owners have won the right to build a 100 boutique hotel in the face of bitter opposition from the local council.

It was also revealed recently by a  hyperlocal blog that Greenwich restaurant and bar owner, Frank Dowling, is considering opening a 20 bedroom boutique hotel in the town centre.

The spurt of new boutique hotels coincides with a flurry of new hotels generally in Greenwich, including a large “four star plus” hotel next to the O2, which is looking to capitalise on its role as an Olympic Borough.

Greenwich Market boutique hotel back on

A controversial redevelopment of Greenwich Market has been given the green light in the face of opposition from the local authority.

Local landowner, Greenwich Hospital, had its application to revamp the market and build a boutique hotel unanimously rejected by Greenwich Council’s Planning Board in 2009 but appealed the decision last year.

As part of their appeal, their application was amended to reduce the size of the hotel and retain the market’s roof and historic cobbles.

Following a public inquiry last September, an independent planning inspector recommended that the appeal be upheld and those conclusions have been backed by Local Government Secretary of State, Eric Pickles.

Work on the project, which had been enthusiastically backed by local MP, Nick Raynsford, will not begin until January 2013.

Local blog, 853, commented that the “battle for the soul of Greenwich may well have been lost”, while the Greenwich Phantom called it a “sad day for Greenwich.”

The 99 bedroom boutique hotel will be created across two buildings with the market in between. Bespoke Hotels have already been announced as operators of the new hotel.

Boutique hotel proposed in Weston Super Mare

Developers have proposed a new boutique hotel by the sea in Weston Super Mare.

A planning application was submitted to North Somerset Council just before Christmas for a 43 bedroom hotel along with residential apartments, beach huts, shops and a bar.

The mixed use development would replace the landmark Royal Pier Hotel which has been derelict since a bad fire in 2010. The Victorian hotel, which had major refurbishment in 1984, was also damaged in a blaze in 2009.

Surrey based developers, CNM Estates, are the developers behind the application with the design work undertaken by Conrad & Partners of Brighton.
