Hotel du Vin **** in Henley on Thames
The Henley Royal Regatta is one of the River Thames’ most famous and well known events. This celebration of rowing takes place annually on this non-tidal section of the river, and the town’s Hotel du Vin is situated just footsteps from the river. The handsome Georgian building was once the home of Brakspears Brewery and has been tastefully turned in to a 43 bedroom hotel. You’ll find hand-sprung mattresses, soft Egyptian cotton bed linen, fluffy towels and a monsoon shower or roll top bath in each room and three River View suites afford excellent views of the river.

The historic market town of Woodstock is just eight miles from Oxford and is home to the famous Blenheim Palace, which holds many claims to fame including being the birthplace of Winston Churchill. Wheelgate House **** in Bampton
At the edge of the Cotswolds in the pretty village of Bampton is the delightful four star bed and breakfast Wheelgate House. The historic property has long been at the centre of village life: it’s was previously the local post office and is situated in the Market Square opposite the local war memorial. The five rooms are all named after birds (Blackbird, Nightingale, Skylark, Robin & Wren). Each room is different from the others but all are individually styled with care and attention. Some of the rooms have exposed beams and all have views of the market square or the courtyard garden. The Skylark room has a gorgeous freestanding Victorian-style bath.
