Plans approved for Giggs and Neville’s Manchester boutique hotel

PLANNING permission has been given for the old Manchester Stock Exchange to be converted in to a boutique hotel.

Council officers approved the plans this week which were submitted by legendary ex Manchester United stars Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville.

The scheme will see the historic Grade II listed Northern Stock Exchange, built 1907,  in the city’s Norfolk Street turned in to a 35-bedroom boutique hotel with bars, restaurants, event space, members’ lounge and a new private roof terrace.

A supporting document with the planning application which was submitted to the council last November says: “The design team have worked hard to produce a proposal that is commercially viable and respectful of the existing historical fabric.”

It adds: “We believe this overall proposal brings a historical piece of Manchester back into existence to be experienced and enjoyed inclusively by the public.”

It was reported in 2013 that Neville had purchased the stock exchange building which then hosted the now-closed Stock Restaurant.

The Manchester Evening News reports that the duo are also about to open a football-themed hotel at Old Trafford called Hotel Football.
