Liverpool’s Royal Insurance building to become boutique hotel

A LANDMARK building in Liverpool city centre looks set to become a boutique hotel under new plans.

The Grade-II listed Royal Insurance building is over one-hundred years old but has stood empty for the past two decades.

Liverpool City Council have now purchased the freehold on the five-storey building and announced plans for it to become a hotel.

The mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson described it as “a fantastic opportunity to breathe new life into the building”. He described the building as “an important landmark in the heart of our city, with outstanding architectural and historical value.”

The Liverpool Daily Post has revealed that developer Ashall will spend £16million converting the property into a 116-room hotel which will be operated under Starwood’s aloft brand.
