Another boutique hotel for south east London

The spurt of boutique hotels in Greenwich, London, continues with consent given for a new 168-bedroom development.

A former section house belonging to the Metropolitan Police will be converted to the hotel, which will be called simply, “The Greenwich”.

The property was built in the 1930s but has been empty and derelict for some years. Greenwich Council’s Planning Board have the green light for the conversion in what is a quiet back  street, close to Deptford station.

The eight storey building has a car park to the rear and the plans to add a gymnasium and restaurant.

The new hotel is one of several boutique hotels that have been given planning permission in recent months. A controversial planning application for a hotel in Greenwich Market has gained planning permission through the independent appeals process and planners recently backed another scheme in nearby Greenwich High Road.

Greenwich is expecting a significant boost from its role as a host borough in next year’s London 2012 Olympics.
